Georgia - The Peach of the South!
If you have Georgia on your mind as an American travel destination, then you are inn for a peach of a treat.
The Peach State offers the visitor marvelous natural beauty, exciting city experiences, fabulous gourmet food, a dreamy, sultry climate, and of course, some of the most important historical sites in the country – all of them served with the ultimate in southern charm.
It's impossible to think about Georgia without recalling “Gone With The Wind”, and for those interested in the history of the South, the Civil War, and elegant antebellum houses, Georgia has riches and to spare. You can follow the “Gone With The Wind” trail and visit some of the landmark places described in the book – although Tara doesn't exist, you can find your own vision of Tara in the many reconstructed nineteenth century plantation houses which are there for the visitors enjoyment.
Atlanta is a beautiful and thriving modern city, and you could easily spend a vacation just enjoying the site-seeing and attractions of Atlanta alone, without having to step outside the city boundaries. It boasts, for example, the largest aquarium in the world, where you and your family can marvel at the underwater world, including ales, dolphins and polar bears. The Atlanta History Center is probably the premier historical museum in the south and makes a wonderful starting point for Civil War explorations. You can even visit Coca-Cola World, see a real bottling line and find out all you ever wanted to know about the world's most famous brand of soda.
Georgia has beautiful national parks with spectacular sight-seeing, for example, the Okefenokee Swamp Park, which highlights Georgia's unique swampland habitat in the most exciting and accessible way. Just about every kind of outdoor activity is available for the visitor to Georgia. World class golf and fishing are stand out activities for the sportsman.
Georgians love to eat, and the eclectic history of Georgia has giving rise to a unique cuisine combining, French, African, Spanish and English influences amongst many. Pecan and peach based confections are a must as take home gifts and souvenirs. And of course, you must sample a mint julep.
Altogether, the Peach State offers a fantastic wealth of exciting attractions for the visitor, and is a must for anyone wanting to understand what makes the United States tick.
