It saw the first constitution adopted into being in 1777 on April 20th, and it was the primary place of battle for the Revolutionary War in many ways. Almost one third of the fights were fought on New York territory. The Battle of Saratoga became the turning point of the Revolution and one of the important battles of the world, which led to the alliance with the French and the eventual victory that was enjoyed.
When you travel to New York, you can also learn about the first government which grew out of the Revolution. The election for the first governor took place during the war, and Albany became the capital of this state in January of 1797.
